Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (TCRPC)

Comprehensive Safety Action Plan

Homepage Overview

Established in 1958, Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (TCRPC) serves the Tri-County Region of Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties, located in Central Illinois. The Tri-County Region is comprised of three counties, supporting 48 communities, and over 350,000 residents. The primary function of TCRPC is to study the needs and conditions of our region and to develop strategies that enhance the region’s communities.

TCRPC Launches Development of
Comprehensive Safety Action Plan

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death in the United States, with the number of fatal car crashes increasing nationally by more than 16 percent – from 36,835 fatalities in 2018 to 42,795 fatalities in 2022. In Illinois, there have been more than 1,200 crash fatalities each year since 2020. Those same trends can be found here in the Tri-County region, where from 2017-2022, 211 people died and 2,036 people received incapacitating injuries on area roadways.

Fueled by a $400,000 U.S. Department of Transportation grant, the TCRPC launched this regional, evidence-based study to serve as a guiding document for residents, employers, public officials, law enforcement, and advocates to identify the extent of the safety challenge in the region and the most effective action steps to make our streets and roads safer.

Traffic deaths are preventable, and this plan is an important step in realizing a safer Tri-County region.
